Sharqiyah Desalination Company SAOG was registered and incorporated as a closed joint stock company in the Sultanate of Oman on 14 January 2007. The Company was established to acquire, operate and maintain an existing water desalination plant of 2.66 million imperial gallons per day (MIGD) capacity at Sur, as well as to build, operate and maintain a new 17.66 MIGD capacity water desalination plant at Sur in the Sharqiyah region, Sultanate of Oman. Sharqiyah Desalination Company (SDC) is committed to improving people's lives by ensuring continuous access to potable water in the Sharqiyah region, both today and for future generations. SDC's mission is to desalinate and produce potable water securely and cost-effectively for the benefit of local communities in the Sharqiyah region. They achieve this through an environmental approach and performance, driven by the dedication and achievements of their team. SDC produces drinking water through desalination processes. The company focuses on sustainable solutions that address local water needs. Seawater is extracted from the ground using 28 individual coastal beachwell units organized into three clusters. This strategy offers advantages such as highly flexible pumping and stable seawater quality with constant salinity, low temperature amplitude, and low pH 2. SDC plays a crucial role in preventing over-extraction of fresh water by utilizing alternative resources like seawater desalination. 35% of the share capital of the Company was floated in Muscat Securities Market in June 2013 in favour of individuals resident in Oman as well as Omani companies. Furthermore, 62.16% of the Company's share capital is currently mainly held by Omani residents and companies.
