Qatar's Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has begun construction of the second phase of a roads and infrastructure project in Izghawa and Al Thumaid, with an estimated cost of QR418 million ($114.8 million), the authority said.

The project will provide infrastructure and road services for about 771 plots, as well as schools, commercial centres, mosques and other public facilities, Ashghal said.

The second package includes the development of about 23 km of roads, 30 km of pedestrian and cycling paths, 589 street lighting poles and 2,730 parking spaces.

Infrastructure works will also include 23 km of rainwater drainage networks, 15 km of drainage networks and 6 km of treated sewage effluent networks for irrigating green spaces covering about 171,650 square metres.

Ashghal said the project will cover an area of about 600,000 sq m between Al Dawakhil Street to the east, National Day Ceremonial Road to the north and Al Khor Road to the south.

Construction will be carried out in three geographical zones in sequence to minimise disruption to residents and road users and maintain traffic flow, it added.
