Specialized Medical Company (SMC Healthcare), founded in 1994 and headquartered in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, has steadily grown into one of the Kingdom's leading private healthcare providers. Currently, SMC operates two hospitals strategically located on King Fahd Road and King Abdullah Road. Together, these facilities house a total of 578 inpatient beds and 266 outpatient clinics, equipped to handle a wide range of medical specialties. Ambitious expansion plans are already underway, with the construction of three new hospitals in Northern Riyadh. Upon completion, the company's capacity is expected to more than double-reaching approximately 1,276 beds and 770 outpatient clinics-solidifying SMC's dominance in the region.
SMC's success is supported by a highly skilled workforce, including 443 doctors, 960 nurses, and nearly 500 other medical professionals. The company is widely recognized for its Centers of Excellence in cardiology, orthopedics, oncology, neurology, and women's health. For instance, its cardiology unit performs over 2,000 interventional procedures annually, reflecting both scale and quality.
In March 2025, SMC announced its initial public offering (IPO) on Saudi Arabia's main stock exchange, Tadawul. With a capital of SAR 250 million, the company offered 75 million shares to the public, accounting for 30% of its total share capital. Of that, 20% (15 million shares) were allocated for retail investors. Notably, all proceeds from the IPO will go to the selling shareholders, as the company itself is not receiving any funds from the listing.
Looking ahead, SMC Healthcare is strategically positioning itself to meet the growing demand for quality healthcare in Riyadh's expanding urban neighborhoods. With its expansion focused on underserved areas in Northern Riyadh, the company aims to capture more than 25% of the private hospital capacity in this new region. SMC's forward-thinking strategy and established reputation place it firmly at the forefront of Saudi Arabia's healthcare transformation.
