Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ), India's largest integrated ports and logistics company, has established a subsidiary in Oman as part of its strategy to expand its international presence and strengthen its position as a global integrated transport operator.

Named Indian Ocean Gateway Terminal, the new entity was incorporated in Oman on October 21, according to a disclosure filed by APSEZ with the National Stock Exchange of India.

The new entity has been established to conduct APSEZ's offshore operations locally, the disclosure said.

Indian Ocean Gateway Terminal is wholly owned by Adani International Ports Holdings Pte Ltd, itself a wholly owned subsidiary of APSEZ, making the Omani entity a step-down subsidiary of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd.

According to the disclosure, the new entity is proposed to operate in the ports and logistics industry. Its share capital is RO500,000, comprising 100 shares valued at RO5,000 each, all held by Adani International Ports Holdings.

The incorporation of a new entity in Oman forms part of APSEZ's broader strategy to build a globally diversified business platform, expand its international footprint and strengthen its presence in key global markets, the company said.

The APSEZ disclosure did not, however, identify any specific port or terminal in Oman associated with the new subsidiary, nor did it provide details of any investment.

APSEZ is India's largest and one of the world's fastest-growing integrated transport operators. With a network of 20 ports and terminals, including 16 strategically located ports in India and four international ports in Israel, Tanzania, Sri Lanka and Australia, APSEZ plays a vital role in connecting businesses, markets and global trade routes.

In India, APSEZ handles nearly 27% of the country's cargo volumes, supported by a port capacity of 671mn MT, with a target of reaching 1bn MT by 2030, according to information on the company's website.

The company's world-class infrastructure handles a diverse range of cargo, including dry bulk, liquid bulk, crude oil, containers and breakbulk, while accommodating some of the largest vessels operating in the region.
